The Biological Society of Slovenia is a professional society whose aim is to take care of the reputation and position of biology as a science and profession in society, to coordinate the activities of biological institutions and individual biologists, to create and enforce uniform criteria for the evaluation of biological work, to strive for an appropriate presentation of biological content in education, to take care of professional interests and to protect nature and the environment.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport has classified Biological Society as a non-governmental organization working in the public interest in the field of research.

Acta Biologica Slovenica is an open-access journal issued by the Biotechnical faculty and published by the University of Ljubljana Press and the Biological Society of Slovenia.
